The Music City Superstar Singing Contest will be open for entry again this summer.  More info coming soon!

Eligibility -  The competition is open worldwide to ages 5 and up with contestants divided into a kid division (5-12), teen division (13-18) and adult division (19 and up).  Each contestant may enter the contest once.

LIVE Competition Rounds -  All contestants initially enter the competition through a FREE online contest that takes place on Facebook.  Approximately 50% of the top scoring contestants in each division from the FREE online contest will be invited to advance to the next round in an online contest and/or live contest. (See online contest rules for more information on the online contest.)  The percentage of advancing contestants may change dependent upon the number of entries.  The next round live contest will take place at WoodSong Farm, Smyrna, TN on September 26, 2020 from 6-9 pm.  The winner and runner up from that round will advance to the live final taking place that same evening.  The entry fee for the next round is $35 for one contest or $50 total for both the online and live contest.

Entry Process for NEXT ROUND Live Contest - Read the competition rules and procedures, complete the entry form and submit the $35 fee for the online contest or $50 for both the live and online contest.  Submit payment at Venmo @musiccityshowcases or paypal.me/lindseybenedict.  A confirmation email will be sent with further instructions.

FREE Online Contest Prizes - All contestants initially enter Music City Superstar through a FREE online contest.  Approximately 50% of the top scoring contestants in each division will be invited to advance to the next round in an online contest and/or live contest.  The division winners of the FREE online contest will skip the next round and advance straight to the final round in one or both contests!!!  These winners will also receive a cash prize.

Live Contest Prizes - The top winners in each division of the live Final have the choice of a free Music City Showcase Package ($250 value), Music City Summer Camp admission ($250 value) or recording session with The Record Shop ($250 value).  See our showcase and summer camp sections for more information.  Additionally, the winners of the adult division in the online and live final will receive a free consultation with Difffrint Wirld Productions
($100 value).  The winner of the ButterCup Next Round will receive one Music City Showcase ($50 value).

Song, Instrument and Track Requirements - Contestants are required to perform from memory, singing one song for up to two minutes.  This 2 minutes does not include introductory statements.  You may either sing the first two minutes of your song or an edited version of the song.  This song may be performed a cappella, with a track, a karaoke video or with piano or guitar accompaniment (self-accompaniment only). You can also play other instruments during your performance.  However, other musicians are not allowed to perform with contestants.  All songs must be family friendly and approved by Music City Showcases.  Please email all tracks to musiccityshowcases@gmail.com.  It is best if an edited track still maintains a good sound quality and song flow without an abrupt ending, and features at least one verse and chorus.  All tracks must be approved by Music City Showcases.

LIVE Event Rules - An electronic keyboard will be provided during each live competition event, but guitar and cables must be provided by the contestant.  One microphone will be provided.  All contestants are required to attend a mandatory sound check at least one hour prior to each live competition event.  Contestants will not be allowed to rehearse during the sound check.  However, certain contestants may be asked to assist in testing microphone levels, guitar levels and keyboard levels.  The order of performance is at the discretion of Music City Showcases and will be announced at sound check.  Contestants will be allowed to have only one parent or guardian backstage with them during each competition performance.  No additional friends or family members are allowed backstage.

Beneficiary - Music City Superstar will be donating a portion of the final competition proceeds to Centennial Park Conservancy's Kidsville Educational Program.  We are proud to support their mission of enriching Nashville's Youth.

Waiver - Parents of all advancing contestants and adult contestants are required to sign a liability waiver and photo/video waiver upon next round competition entry.

Conduct - No profanity or vulgarity will be allowed in any video performance or Facebook comments or posts.  This is a family friendly event so please be respectful.  Attire must be respectable, tasteful and age appropriate.  Failure to comply with this code of conduct may result in immediate dismissal from the competition.

Judging Criteria - Judges will consist of music professionals and community and business leaders.  Contestants will be judged on the following criteria on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the highest score possible.

  • Connection with Audience - Memorable Performance, Creates a moment, Evokes positive emotion, Introductory statements

Performance Coaching - Music City Superstar offers performance coaching to all contestants at a cost of $50 per hour.  This does not give the contestant an advantage in the competition, as the judges will not be aware of the contestants who are receiving coaching.
